Anna Leavitt, Senior Biologist/Project Manager

Meet Anna Leavitt, Senior Biologist and Project Manager. Her interest in pursuing a career in biology is attributed to growing up in the Sierra Nevada National Forest. As a child, Anna spent most of her time exploring and learning about nature by chasing gopher snakes, catching western toads, and playing in the mud. Anna graduated from Humboldt State University where her professor of Plant Taxonomy inspired her to major in botany. Anna holds a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service permit for vernal pool branchiopods, Quino checkerspot butterfly, and coastal California gnatcatcher. She also holds a California Department of Fish and Wildlife Scientific Collecting and California Endangered Species Act Plant Voucher Collecting Permits. In 2008, Anna joined RECON where she serves as a preserve management specialist, conducts biological assessments, wetland assessments, and habitat restoration mitigation implementation and monitoring. Anna has served as a project manager for the Otay Ranch Preserve for the past 13+ years, assisting in the implementation of the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP) and presents at the annual City of San Diego’s MSCP Workshop. Anna also served as the Vegetation Committee Chair Person for the California Native Plant Society-San Diego Chapter for 7 years. When asked about the best part of her job Anna said “my coworkers! I love working with positive folks who lift each other up.” Thank you, Anna, for always bringing such a positive attitude to work!
